Facial masks are an essential part of the skin routine, they can assist with different skin problems we face. They can tackle problems like acne, immature aging, dark spots, sunburns, dryness, oiliness, and many more. Here are some of the homemade facial masks to try for any skin type.
ACNE
- 1 Tbsp aloe vera gel a drop of tea tree oil.
Mix well, apply and leave it on for 10-15mins then wash off and follow with your moisturizing recommended product. - Prepare oats as normal for breakfast, let it cool off and with no sugar apply to face for 20-30mins. For more results, you can a few drops of tea tree oil.
- Blend together aloe vera with turmeric and apply to your face 15-20mins. Rinse off with lukewarm water for oil control, to calm irritated skin and useful for very inflamed skin.
- 2 tbsps. of honey
1 tsp cinnamon.
Mix together and apply the paste on a clean dry face. Apply on affected areas and leave it for 10-15min. Rinse it off completely with warm water.
Blackheads
- 1 tbsps. of lemon juice
1 egg white, mix well and apply on the blackheads avoiding the eye area.
Leave for 10-15min and wash off with cool to lukewarm water. - 1 tsp of turmeric
1tbsp of honey
Leave the mixture on the clean face for 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water. It gives instant results.
Eczema
- 1 tbsp oatmeal
2 tbsps. of raw honey
½ tsp water.
Apply the mixture to clean skin, leave it on for 10min and rinse off - 2 tbsps. of Greek yoghurt
1 tbsp of honey.
Mix well and apply for 20mins then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Chapped lips
- ½ tbsp filtered honey.
½ tbsp organic cane sugar.
Mix the two ingredients, rub gently on the lips and leave it on your lips for 5mins. Rinse off in and apply lip balm. - A little avocado.
Small amount of Vaseline.
Mix together and apply to the lips for 5-10min and rinse off - 1 tsp castor oil.
2 tsps. of sugar.
Vitamin E capsule oil.
1-2 drops of vanilla extract.
Mix well and apply. Leave it on for few minutes and rinse off
Dry & dull skin
- 1 tbsp Greek yoghurt
1 tbsp of oatmeal.
2 tbsps. of honey.
Apply the mix to your face & your neck for 10-15min and rinse off warm water - 1 tbsp of honey.
½ mashed Avo.
Mix properly, apply & wash off after 10min - ½ Mashed banana.
1 tbsp honey.
1 tbsp orange juice.
Mix well and apply to a clean face for 15min and rinse with lukewarm water - ¼ cup of honey.
3 tbsps. orange juice.
Mix well and rub it off gently then leave the mixture for 15mins before you rinse off with lukewarm water
Inflammation
- 2 tbsps. aloe vera gel.
1 tsp Macha green tea powder.
Mix well, apply & rinse off after 15min - To calm inflammation-mash 1 quarter ripe avocado.
1 tbsp raw honey.
1 tbsp of oat bran or rolled oats.
Mix and apply for 10min on a clean dry face then rinse off with lukewarm water. It also leaves the skin hydrated glowing.
Oily skin
- 1 egg white.
2 tbsps. aloe vera gel.
Mix well, apply and leave for 10min then wash off with lukewarm water. - 1 egg yolk.
½ cup of oatmeal.
1 tbsp olive oil.
1 tbsp of honey.
Stir well and apply for 15-20mins and rinse off with lukewarm water
Dark spots and pigmentation
- 1 tsp turmeric powder.
2 tbsps. plain yoghurt.
Make paste, 10-15min & rinse off & follow with a usual face wash routine - 1 tsp turmeric.
1 tbsp of honey.
Mix the two to make a paste and apply it to a clean dry face. Leave for 15-20min then rinse off with lukewarm water. It works for acne as well. - ½ cup of mashed papaya.
2 tbsps. of honey.
Blend the two together, apply for 15-20mins and rinse off with lukewarm water.
Reasons for using some of these common ingredients
Turmeric – it is anti-inflammatory so it reduces inflammation in the skin
Honey – it is an antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and antimicrobial (anti-microbial means it helps to kill acne-causing bacteria). A natural humectant that keeps the skin moist, not oily. It nourishes and plumps the skin.
Eggs – they have skin tightening effects, they enhance elasticity and hydrate the skin
Yoghurt – delays signs of aging, moisturizes, tightens, and shrinks the pores. It brightens skin tone and reduces acne
Olive oil – moisturize and hydrate the skin. Manages sun damage and fights acne-causing bacteria
Aloe vera – it has a natural calming effect and also works on the inside if you drink it for acne
Oats – a good source of vitamin E and contains antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties
Tea tree oil – it is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, an effective natural acne fighter that can be irritating to the skin if it is used in higher concentrations. Avoid applying it directly to the skin, mix with other effective ingredients before application.
Great to know
- before you use face masks, make sure your skin is thoroughly cleansed to allow the masks to work on prepared pores.
- use your recommended moisturizer after every face wash
- always wash off with lukewarm water, never use hot water
